About Mr. Gattax

Learn more about the artist

Basics.

My name is Lucas Gattas, artistically known as Mr. Gattax. Holding dual Italian and Brazilian nationality and enriched by Lebanese and German heritage, I was born and raised in Brazil and am currently 29 years old. My formal education comprises a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from the Faculdade Paulista de Artes (FPA) in Brazil and a Master of Arts in Computing and the Arts from the School of Popular Arts (SOPA) in Berlin, which I completed in 2023. My artistic journey began in 2007 with electronic music, expanding into 3D renderings in 2014 and AI-assisted artworks in 2021.

Background.

Throughout my career, I have engaged in various collaborations, including projects with Brazilian fashion brands like AAurora and contributing 3D visuals to the Brazil Immersive Fashion Week (BRIFW) in 2020. My work has been featured in several exhibitions, such as the Iconic Market in Saint Petersburg in 2018, the “Transduction – Computing and The Arts” exhibition in Berlin in 2020, and the “Lusco-Fusco” exhibition in Curitiba, Brazil, in 2022, among others. I have also gained recognition in the digital art space through notable NFT sales, solidifying my presence in the evolving landscape of art and technology.

Style.

Artistically, my work gravitates around the concept of the uncanny valley, using technology to synthesize and blur the boundaries between reality and artificial creation. My approach is to create art that challenges perceptions, inviting observers to a personal dialogue with the work and encouraging them to question the nature of reality and their understanding of it. This philosophical investigation underpins my artistic vision, emphasizing that our understanding of the world involves not only what is seen and formed but also the invisible and unformed. My aim is to create art that challenges perceptions and evokes a sense of both familiarity and alienation.

Direction.

Academically, I have been honored with full scholarships for both my undergraduate and master’s studies, awarded by ProUni from the Brazilian government and DAAD from the German government, respectively, in recognition of my academic and artistic merits. As I continue to push the boundaries of digital art and artificial intelligence, I am committed to exploring innovative technologies and methodologies that enhance the visual and conceptual impact of my work. My aspiration is to contribute meaningful and thought-provoking pieces to the global artistic community, fostering dialogue and reflection on the intersection of art, technology, and human experience.
